This collection adds yet another dimension to your strings: Sordinos (mutes) tone down the sound but at the same time open up new sonic worlds. String instruments become gently subdued, as if shrouded in a soft veil. Music played with mutes carries the air of suggestive subtlety, like a whispered conversation between musician and listener. What’s left unspoken carries heightened impact and emotional weight. It’s no wonder that this particular technique is a favorite among Hollywood composers. With this collection you can explore its entire expressive potential with ease, precision and authenticity. Thanks to the Humanize Presets, subtle timing and pitch imperfections can be automatically applied to each individual musician in the ensemble, creating even more lifelike and natural performances.
5 String sections playing “con sordino” (with mutes):
8 First violins, 8 second violins, 6 violas, 6 cellos and 4 double basses
Recorded in groups, with individual microphones for each player
Authentic ensemble sound with direct access to each voice
Humanize presets for real-time control of performance accuracy
Artful articulations from staccato to pizzicato
Avoid/force open strings and easily determine which strings are to be played
Individual impulse responses from Synchron Stage Vienna for placement and reverberation of each musician of the ensemble
“Con sordino” (with mutes) dampens the transmission of energy from the strings to the instrument’s body for a softer, darker sound. The resulting tone lends itself well to intimate arrangements and emotional ballads, or to infuse a particularly sensitive cue with subtle emotiveness. An insider tip of film composers is to blend the normal string sound with muted strings for achieving a very special broad, soft and warm string environment – a technique that is a real trade secret and that you can now utilize as well.
Articulations are the same for all articulation styles:
Regular – Normal playing
Open String – String changes always to the next open string
Force G/D/A/E String (Violins); Force C/G/D/A String (Violas, Cellos); Force B/E/A/D String (Basses) – Played on the respective string for approx. 1 1/2 octaves before changing
For every instrument there are Compact and Full Presets. Compact contains only the Regular samples.
As patches and articulations are the same for all instruments, only the 1st Violins are listed here.
