How to trigger articulations with the Sound Set

VE SY Plucked Instruments and VE Plucked Instruments

The "VE SY Plucked Instruments" sound set works with the Studio Plucked Instruments collection.

The "VE Plucked Instruments" sound set works with the Single instruments Upright Bass, Concert Guitar and Overdrive.

Long notes/Sustain

This patch is triggered by default.

If you want to switch back from a different articulation, use one of the following Technique Text commands (Ctrl+T on Win, Command+T on OS X): "ord.", "natural", "normal".

Staccato

There are two ways to trigger this patch:

  1. Use the keypad’s staccato mark.
  2. Create the Technique Text command "stacc" or "staccato".

Legato

There are two ways to trigger this patch:

  1. Use slurs.
  2. Create the Technique Text command "legato".
To switch back to non-legato playing use the Technique Text command "non legato".

Non vibrato (only VI Upright Bass)

For the guitars the non vibrato patches are triggered by default. For the Upright Bass the Vib-light patch is triggered by default. To switch to non vibrato, create the Technique Text command "senza vibrato" or "non vibrato".

Vibrato

Create the Technique Text command "vib" or "vibrato". To switch back to non-vibrato, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural", "normal", "senza vibrato" or "non vibrato".

Legato + vibrato

Legato and vibrato can also be combined.

Portato

Create the Technique Text command "portato". To switch back use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural", "normal".

Pizz-snap (Bartok pizzicato)

Add one of the symbols for snap pizzicato from the Symbols menu to the note(s).

Mute

Create the Technique Text command "mute". For the Concert Guitar "etouffe" will work as well. To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural" or "normal".

Repetitions

Create the Technique Text command "rep". (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.)

Arco sustain (only Upright Bass)

Create the Technique Text command "sustain".To switch back to normal playing use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "normal".

Glissando

Create the Technique Text command "portamento". To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural" or "normal".

Glissando slow (only Upright Bass)

Create the Technique Text command "glissando".

Bend (only guitars)

Concert Guitar: Add the Scoop articulation sign to the note. The Overdrive perf-bend articulation can be triggered with the Technique Text command "portamento".

Hammer-Pull (only guitars)

Create the Technique Text command "fast". To switch back to normal playing use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "normal".

Harmonics (only guitars)

There are two ways to trigger this patch:

  1. Add the Harmonic/Open articulation sign to the note (that's the small circle).
  2. Write "harmonics" above the first note where a section of harmonics starts.

Tremolo (only guitars)

There are two ways to trigger this patch:

  1. Create the Technique Text command "trem" or "tremolo".
  2. Use the tremolo symbol with 3, 4 or 5 beams across the stem from the Sibelius keypad to switch to tremolo. (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.)

Trill 1 / Trill 2 (only guitars)

Create a trill line from the Lines menu. Sibelius automatically triggers the right trill (half or whole tone) according to the diatonic surrounding. You can also switch manually between half tone and whole tone trills in the Inspector/Playback window. To do so, select the trill line and uncheck Diatonic .

Sul ponticello (only Concert Guitar)

Create the Technique Text command "sul ponticello". It can also be combined with legato and vibrato. To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural" or "normal".

Whammy Bar 1 (only Overdrive)

Create a w/bar line from the Lines menu. (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.)

Whammy Bar 2 (only Overdrive)

Create the Technique Text command "molto vibrato". It can also be combined with thew/bar line from the Lines menu. To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.","normal", "non vibrato".

Marcato (only Overdrive)

There are two ways to trigger these patches:

  1. Use the keypad’s marcato mark.
  2. Create the Technique Text command "marcato".
It can also be combined with "vibrato". To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural" or "normal".

Ebow (only Overdrive)

Create the Technique Text command "ebow". To switch back to normal playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "natural" or "normal".

Power chord quint (only Overdrive)

Create the Technique Text command "power". (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.) It can also be combined with the Technique Text command"rep" for the power chord quint repetitions. To switch back to normal playing use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "normal".

Power chord quart (only Overdrive)

Create the Technique Text command "power" and the Technique Text command "4". (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.) To switch back to normal playing use one of the following Technique Text commands: "ord.", "normal".

Custom cells (only VI version)

(cells A12 and B12 for the Concert Guitar and Overdrive, cells A6 to C6 for the Upright Bass): It’s possible to use additional patches, that are not included in the VI presets for Sibelius by default. Just add the desired patch(es) to one of the empty cells. To switch to these cells from your Sibelius score, use one of the following Technique Text commands: "custom" or "custom1" for cell A12 (A6 for Upright Bass), "custom2" for cell B12 (B6 for Upright Bass) and "custom3" for cell C6 (only Upright Bass). (Only available with Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded.)
