Output Settings

In this section you can define room equalizers, main and Secondary Microphones, their positioning, offset, etc.

Room Equalizers

The first parameter of the section is connected to the selected instrument/channel, and affects only its wet (i.e., processed) signal of both the Main and Secondary Microphones.

Important

The RoomEQ is organized as a “bank” of settings. This means that an instrument is assigned to one of the 32 “memory slots”, not to an individual setting.

By default, a RoomEQ slot number is assigned together with an Instrument Profile. If you have an instrument that is not listed, you can assign one of the factory presets, or create your own by clicking on the “e” button next to the EQ preset name and selecting a free slot. Here you can also load and save RoomEQ presets and preset banks (.mireq and .mireqbank files).

Main and Secondary Microphone

This is the place where most of the overall “sound” of MIR Pro 3D happens. If you want to change the acoustic appearance of a chosen Venue, this is where you should start!

Main and Secondary Microphones have the same parameters. However, the latter can be switched off entirely and has an adjustable volume offset in relation to the Main Microphone.

  • Microphone selection: select the microphoning of your choice from the factory and user presets. Click on the edit button next to the microphone name, or double-click the graphic representation of the microphone array in the Venue view to open the Output Editor.
  • Position: one of the recording positions, of which there are up to four according to Venue. Offset: X determines the lateral position of the microphone array, Y the longitudinal one (i.e., front to back) measured from the original impulse recording position. Z sets the height from the floor of the Venue.
  • Rotation: rotation on the Z axis changes the microphone array’s angle horizontally, on the Y axis sideways, and on the X axis it turns front to back. Rotation is limited to +/- 180 degrees, which of course adds up a full 360°. Most of these movements can be achieved by click-dragging the microphone directly in the Venue, too. Double-clicking will return it to its original position.

Immersive Surround and your DAW

Immersive Surround is a highly interesting and vast field, and it is an incredible playground to explore the possibilities of Vienna MIR Pro 3D, also in combination with Vienna Ensemble Pro!

Make sure to set up your sequencer correctly, so that you can take full advantage of your brand-new options!

Tip

Binaural mixes will be the most affordable way to get a feeling for immersive surround formats. If your DAW does not offer binaural encoding, we suggest to use DearVR Monitor as a binaural encoder.
